Ready to do Your will
Voice of Elijah – 12 July 2021 / e7k rainmakers / audio cafe). Editor’s note by Geoff Chew.
What is godly leadership? To find out what God is saying and do it, laying aside every weight to run.
Run with those who mourn, run with the meek, run with the hungry and thirsty for God, run with the merciful, run with the pure in heart, run together in peace and even in soul affliction keeping moving forward but always with an eye to what God has said, what He is saying, what He is asking of you, and to do it without hesitation, “laying aside every weight, to run”.
We lay aside the folly of the worldly who take lightly the word of the Lord. They say, “let us eat and drink for tomorrow we die”. We lay aside bitter waters and every uncleanness that we may move forward in wholeness and productivity. We lay aside impurity in body and soul, we lay aside every filth of flesh that pollutes the soul. We lay aside and apply the salt of the spirit to destroy the sin that so easily entangles.
We fix our eyes on the one who calls us forward. We fix our eyes and pay attention to what needs to be done. We fix our eyes from the moment the promise was uttered from the mouth of God. We fix our eyes on God’s call for order and decency in the home, we fix our eyes on monogamy, on dwelling in the land and cultivating faithfulness. We fix our eyes on the fulness of time, the full term delivery of what has been promised so long ago. We fix our eyes with single-mindedness to the task of redeemed and godly leadership, “diligently, skilfully, doing the detailed work” (1Kings 6:6-8) that proceeds steadily onward, forward, upward from the moment of its utterance to its final completed form.
Not to us but to the greater son of David have the keys been given to open “that no man may shut, to shut that no man may open” (Isaiah 22:22). Not to us but to the angel of righteousness (dikaios) has it been given to release the genius to reposition the body of Christ exactly where he needs to be moment by moment. This is real righteousness, to loose the bonds of wickedness and to call out the prophets from their caves to stand in the authority of Elijah who was a man “like unto us” yet stood his ground against the prophets of Baal and the spirit of Jezebelic disaster.
“We are being built into temple, fit for God’s own dwelling place. Into the house of God which is the church, the pillar and the ground of truth. As precious stones that Jesus owns, fashioned by His wondrous grace, as we love and trust each other, so the building grows and grows”
I lead, therefore I am, and because I live, because I understand whose I am, and how I have been wired, many people around me will prosper. Every soul is ordained for greatness and every community can bless God and flourish. Whenever I find out what God is saying and do it, whenever I lay aside every weight to run.
