Piapi House 2019

A key makes no sense without the lock it opens. The design of the key is a clue to its purpose. The first keys made all had teeth. The shape of its teeth is a clue to its assignment. What it was designed to do, and what it in fact does on a everyday basis points to its function – to unlock something that would otherwise remain locked.
This is Intelligent Design. From its design we can deduce a conscious and conscientious mind that pre-conceived that original idea. Both lock and key, horse and rider, fork and spoon presumes intelligent design based on the hypothesis of a fine-tuned universe or, what is known as the Goldilocks principle.

She found Papa bear’s bed too big and Baby bear’s bed too small. When she awoke, she found Papa bear’s porridge too hot and Baby bear’s porridge too cold. So she slept in Mama bear’s bed and ate from Mama bear’s bowl that was “just right”.

The Goldilocks principle has its implications for Intelligent Design. When you look at nature, the birds and the bees, you see the signature of intelligence written all over creation.

Take bread making for example. The grain in the wheat becomes fine flour when beaten, the outer life is exposed under the force of the threshing wheel or stone mill. The husk is winnowed in the breeze.

The fine flour is kneaded into dough which is yeasted and left to proof. Each step along the process speaks of the baker’s intent to create something out of fine flour. Each step is infused with the excellence of execution, the implementation of a plan first fixed in the mind with measure, specificity and timing. Nothing is left to chance.

Bread does not bake itself. When it comes fresh out of the oven, it will never return to its former state. This is the irreversible process as grain for bread is crushed. Likewise a line of code does not write itself. Whether machine code in a computer, a script in linear algebra or indeed the genetic code that spells out the colour of your hair and determines how many baby teeth you get and when they are pushed out and replaced.

Another miracle of design is the default natural abilities of eye-sight, sleight of hand, sharpness of the ear, fluency of tongue to produce emotional content, clarity of vision to move, and impassion or inflame.
The structure of vertebrae holds the body erect is another example of intelligent design. Combined with joints, marrow and sinew, the power of muscle and the regularity of a beating heart speak not of accident but are the fingerprints of a Designer who has wound up your anatomical universe like a clock.
Likewise, modal excellence. Where does your talent to see, shape with your hands, hear, speak, stand upright, fight or show kindness come from? These are not accidental gifts but deliberate, conscious and intentional acts that give shape to behaviour that in turns determines specific, calculated and positive outcomes for personal, family and for the common good. Again, the signature of an intelligent designer who has communicated his will through the incarnation.
